With its history ingrained in shipbuilding and waterborne commerce, Greenpoint was originally home to many manufacturers. In 2005, the City rezoned 175 blocks in Greenpoint and Williamsburg, resulting in numerous new residential units and new retail space. Access to the East River waterfront and McCarren Park provides an escape to green space. The market is comprised of a mix of new condo developments, converted warehouses and row homes. While it has long been one of North Brooklyn’s more affordable neighborhoods, it is getting more expensive, as safer streets, better G train and ferry access, combined with one of the City’s best local and bar restaurant scenes, make the neighborhood a desirable place to live.
